The Organising Committee of the 13th WIOMSA Scientific Symposium is pleased to invite submissions for Side Events and Special Activities to complement the main programme of the Symposium. These activities are designed to offer participants expanded opportunities for engagement, learning, and collaboration beyond the core scientific sessions.

The Symposium provides an exceptional platform to:

  • Showcase initiatives and ongoing projects
  • Launch new publications
  • Share multimedia and creative works
  • Facilitate networking among marine scientists, practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders from across the Western Indian Ocean region and beyond

We welcome proposals for a variety of activities, including but not limited to:

  • Book and Publication Launches
  • Film Screenings and Media Showcases
  • Project Showcases and Networking Receptions (in the evenings of 29th &  30th September and 1st October 2025)
  • Art Installations and Storytelling Sessions
  • Campaign or Initiative Launches

Please note: Training sessions or mini-workshops are recommended to take place pre- or post-Symposium.

Submission Guidelines

Submission requirements:
Please submit a concise concept note (maximum 500 words), including:

    • Title of the activity
    • Description and objectives
    • Target audience
    • Preferred format and duration
    • Technical and logistical requirements (note: additional costs may apply for special requirements)
    • Contact details of the organiser(s)

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Relevance to the Symposium’s themes
  • Potential for audience engagement
  • Logistical feasibility

Preference will be given to proposals that are innovative, interactive, and enhance the overall Symposium experience.
