Dr. Jacqueline Uku, the WIOMSA President, welcomes delegates to the 12th WIOMSA Scientific Symposium that will take place in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa on 10-15 October 2022.

Organised by WIOMSA, the Sustainable Seas Trust and the Nairobi Convention, the theme of this year’s symposium is “A New Decade of Western Indian Ocean Science”. The theme draws inspiration from the current global and regional goals including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the UN Decade of Ocean Restoration;  regional goals such as the Nairobi Convention; and the most recent advances in the ocean and climate science.

Join us for the largest open scientific and networking event in the Western Indian Ocean region featuring advances in coastal and ocean science, governance, innovations, interventions, institutional and regional efforts to attain the SDGs and other goals .The symposium  will showcase insightful and inspiring presentations on the latest research results and key developments in the Western Indian Ocean region.

The deadline for submission of abstracts and proposals for mini symposia is 22 April 2022.
