WIOMSA has opened its 12th WIOMSA Symposium Photography Competition for submissions! The contest was launched on 5th June in celebration of World Environment Day 2022.  Plugging into the “Only One Earth” theme, and the essential role that the ocean and ocean science play in the planet’s functioning, the focus of the photo competition is  “A New Decade of Western Indian Ocean Science”. 

Photography is a powerful tool which often produces unexpected and breath-taking beauty through stunning images that showcase the captivating work being done across a wide range of disciplines in the WIO region. Join us in picturing and imagining what the next decade of ocean science will look like in the region by submitting entries relating to the science of the WIO coastal region: its seascape, landscape, species, research work, coastal communities, cities, and cultures. The competition is open to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, expertise, and levels of photography experience from the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region. Entries should be submitted via email to  secretary@wiomsa.org by 15^th September 2022.

The top twenty photos will be selected by a panel of judges and displayed during the WIOMSA Symposium where participants will vote on which entries they deem best. The winners will be announced during the Symposium and their pictures featured on the WIOMSA website and publications.
